Ok, I just got back from going to the movie Bridge to Tarabithia.
Without going into details, the movie touches on the idea of unsaved persons going to hell.
This bothers me a great deal.
I just walked out of a religion that teaches that millions are going to be destroyed for not worshipping God Just The Right Way.
It is amazing how many people really do believe that I and my husband and my fellow pagan friends, will be burning in hell.
How does that differ from Armageddon?
This was a Key Reason why I left orthodox Christianity behind. My sister as well as so many others have lived their own personal hells here on earth, the notion that a person could believe that since they do not believe in Jesus as their Saviour they will burn in hell is just beyond unsettling.
Whether or not it is in the Bible is almost an entirely different discussion. I just can't get it through my head that a person who once believed that a good chunk of the population would die in Armageddon, could be happier believing that a good chunk of the population will burn or be tormented in some way in hell.
I DO realize that a number of people in Christian religions, as well as Jewish and Islam, recognize that every person has to find their own way to God and it's not up to them to judge. I also realize that the people who think I'll go to a place of torment are genuinely nice people who I get along with rather well.
It's just something I have a difficult time wrapping my brain around.
